How to know if you have a drinking problem?

  • You feel ashamed about your drinking;

  • You hide your drinking habits from others;

  • You drink to help you cope with difficulties;

  • You drink to avoid feeling bad;

  • Your friends or family members are worried about your drinking;

  • You forget what you did while you were drinking.

Problem drinking can sneak up on you and go from moderate or social use to alcoholism quickly. Genetics, how you were raised, your social environment, and your emotional health are all factors that contribute to alcohol abuse. Recognizing you have a problem is the first step in overcoming alcoholism.
